About Mayor Freddy Puza

"I ran for office because I believe local government can improve people's lives. Every day, I'm working to make Culver City more affordable, more sustainable, and more welcoming for everyone who calls it home."
- Mayor Freddy Puza

Since making Culver City home in 2011, Freddy Puza has built a reputation as a collaborative leader, community advocate, and problem-solver dedicated to making the city more affordable, inclusive, and sustainable for everyone

Currently serving as Mayor and Councilmember, Freddy is in the fourth year of his first term on the Culver City Council. During his time in office, he has focused on addressing the issues that matter most to residents: improving neighborhood livability, expanding housing affordability, protecting renters, supporting small businesses, investing in safe transportation options, advancing climate action, and strengthening Culver City's vibrant arts and cultural community.

Freddy's commitment to public service began long before his election to City Council. He previously served on Culver City's Committee on Homelessness and the General Plan Advisory Committee, helping shape long-term solutions to some of the city's most pressing challenges. He also co-created Culver City Pride, helping launch the city's first-ever LGBTQ+ Pride celebration and establishing a new tradition that reflects Culver City's values of inclusion, belonging, and community. Through these efforts, Freddy has consistently worked to bring people together, amplify underrepresented voices, and build a city where everyone feels welcome.

Outside of City Hall, Freddy has spent more than two decades working in higher education, where he currently serves as Director of Community Relations.. Throughout his career, he has focused on building partnerships, expanding opportunity, and connecting people to the resources they need to succeed. His professional experience includes leadership roles in community engagement, student support, and organizational development, all rooted in a commitment to equity and public service.

Freddy's approach to leadership is grounded in values passed down by his family: personal responsibility, service to others, and respect for every member of the community. Those values continue to guide his work today as he helps build a Culver City that is welcoming, forward-looking, and full of opportunity for current and future generations.

As the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to the Culver City Council, Freddy is proud to represent a city that embraces diversity and civic engagement. He remains focused on addressing the challenges facing Culver City while ensuring it remains a place where residents, families, workers, and small businesses can thrive.
